Hi all, this will be my final message on this forum. I know this will come as a surprise to each and everyone of you, but it's something that has been going around in my head for quite a while. I need a change in my personal priorities, I feel I'm just spending too much time with all the forums I subscribed, and it's at the cost of (real-time) friends & family. Therefore I have cancelled membership in all the forums (as far as possible), so it's not just OFTD.
This is a nice & friendly forum, and I'm a bit sad to leave you behind with my work not yet done. But it's taken more and more of my time, and so I decided to make a clean cut.
I will not delete my account so the posts will not disappear. But I will not log in again. I know that some of you will be disappointed, but I see no other way for me to make this important change.
It's been about 10 months of fun, but now it's time to say goodbye...
If I only had one love yours would be the one I'd choose
This is truely the worst possible news for us on here Vin, infact this is a real bolt from the blue and im shocked to say the least. We will miss your knowledge and wisdom, and the way you handled the Pans section was simply excellent.
You obviously have your reasons and all i can say is thank you for your contributions on here and good luck.
I'm very surprised Vin and a little saddened. I've enjoyed getting to know PP with you doing a great job at the helm. I think you're right to reassess things regarding spending less time in the virtual world, but I do hope we see you here again.
Thanks for all the great work and I wish you all the very best.
It is most unfortunate that you have decided to leave us.
I hope some kind soul will continue the good work you have started with the Pans People Comments section.
With many fine performances to be repeated on BBC 4 in the coming years, I hope you may find the time in the future to add your valued analysis to the Legs and Co dances.
I'm genuinely sad. I have really valued your knowledgeable posts and friendly manner Vin and the Pans People Comments Thread has been great success. Thanks for spending time on here. Having said this I too appreciate the need to make time for "real" life and I can only respect your decision. Just know that we'd love to have you back here any time
Some Dancers who gave a good time, broke all the rules, played all the fools, yeah yeah yeah they blew our minds
Thanks for everything, I'm in shock, I thought that you'd be here for the rest of the existence of OftDs, so it looks like somebody else will have to get the Pan's People routines up for assessment in future, there's so many to get through.
Your future posts that were to be will be missed. Fully understand and agree with you that real world activities need to be given priority over a too closed-in cyberlife. I hope to see you back with us at some point in the future, but in the meantime I wish you well. AND your posts were always very well written, often equal to if not better than most of us whose first language [or only] is supposedly English!
yes i can fully understand what vin is saying ,if you not carefull the internet does become addictive ,and can easilly take over your real life ,i too was spending far too much time on the internet a few years back ,and looking back i suppose i was neglecting the rest of the family ,its far too easy to to forget real life whilst reminising about the gooda times of years ago ,a very nice thing to do though ,but i think there does need a balance ,i now try to just to put aside a little bit of time for myself and that is on my computer ,and the rest of the time its back to reality with the family
VV I'm really sorry to read this - not sure what to say except that I'm sure you have reached your decision with the same great thought, reason and diplomacy you have given to all your posts here. In particular I'm so grateful for the Pans People review thread which I admit is/was my favourite thing on here. Door is always open and if you choose to return i hope you wouldn't feel we'd expect the same level of commitment that you've so generously given us before.
Everyone else has said what really needs to be said.
Namely that VV was a valuable asset on OFTD's not only in his knowledge of his specialist dance troupe subject Pan's People but also in his running of that particular Dance Comments section, but also in his views and postings which were always articulate and interesting.
If you're looking in, VV, it's a shame you've moved along but if ever an avenue reopens in your life to spend some time in Cyberland, let's hope it's back on OFTD's, no matter whether the visits are fleeting.
so sorry to hear this Vin. I have very much appreciated your posts. I do understand about the internet taking over though, I often think about places I want to visit, people I want to see especially as I am pushing 40.
Okay Vin, you've had 3 or 4 weeks. I know you still look in on this forum, the reason why is that you have an interest in the dancers and the dances. There is no escape from it, why don't you just swallow your pride and admit you made an error of judgement. Im not asking you to come back here to sit here every night commenting on things, im asking you to come back to us and say the odd thing, like maybe join in on the comments section.
Im sure i speak for all of us when i say you were a very popular guy on here and you are sorely missed. You are still a registered member, so come on, please say hello to us. Hopefully our good friend Babsy will be commencing his Pans comments on Monday, wouldn't it be just a nice tonic to see you dropping in a comment/rating/Dotd.
Remember on here that `nothing is forgotten`, and that goes for you. You know it makes sense Vin.
It seems to me very unlikely that obvious attempts to attract Vin back to OFTDs will work. Anyway I thought I'd take this opportunity to see what everyone's favorite foreign language songs were so I'll start with my current German winner which is this one:
