This post was updated on .
Following on from our yearly polls in which you selected your favourite number 2's, its now time to pick an overall favourite from the three decades we focused on, 60's, 70's & 80's, with this time the 1970's.

Simply select the 3 you consider to be your favourites. Remember that you must select all '3' favourite choices in one go, you cannot vote for one or two then vote again for your third.
The poll ends Friday at 8.00pm. This is a hidden poll and the result will automatically be revealed at the end of the poll. You must be logged-in to vote.

THE POLL IS CLOSED.

So difficult to narrow this down to just 3. Can't believe i've omitted both Beatles & Bowie, but thats what i've done.

Every song here's a winner, but I've gone for:

1. An issue with urban planing

2. An ode to a one time resident of Myra

3. The A side to an equally memorable B side

Insanely difficult choice and I’ve left some huge ones out. I went with something very sweet, ‘Hunt’ed around for my second and believed my third to be one of the finest from my favourite genre.
This week, I are be mostly just being.

Another fabulous collection of records. I'm going to have to leave out some classics, even personal favourites.

A very difficult choice, and showing what a great decade the 1970s were, in music and for growing up generally.
There was one that I thought was not as good as the others, an overused rock anthem. But had the weigh up and consider all the other nine. And had to let some favourites go, including one very well known song which had a Pan's People routine, a photo of which has survived of them dressed in an iconic silver.
My three choices have been; a song that could have been about a place in South America, the song about us- the young of the 70s, and a riposte to commercialism.
Very interesting to find out who wins through this week. I am sure all 10 will have supporters and this could be a very close finish.
The 1970s- a top decade. What a great time to be young!!

An easy choice for me as 3 of these songs are truly all-time greats which stand head and shoulders above the rest.

So I have gone for probably the most famous pair of groups ever to come out of the UK, and a guy who played alongside this fella

The Rubberband Man
For me, it's the early half of the decade that gets my votes :-

I chose Sparks which in my opinion should have been a No.1.  Still sounds fresh and uplifting today.  Candi Staton, Young Hearts Run Free as this is in my collection after Ruby Flipper danced to it and David Bowie's track.
Everywhere, wherever you look, manipulation rearing it's head.

A few monumental offerings offered for selection in this poll makes for a rather enjoyable selection process.
My first choice is multi allegorical, the second could be sung in either of two Northern stadiums in a couple of Sundays time and the third's kitchen sink.

My first record will go to The Beatles. The second goes to David Bowie . The last goes to a favourite Ruby flipper routine by Candi Staton. But all are great records and could win the poll.

Tie-break poll (ends 9.00pm Saturday) to determine your favourite UK number 2 single from the 1970's

In reply to this post by RYAN
The main poll ended in a three-way tie for our favourite number 2 single from the 1970's. Our list of ten from the years produced `Brown Sugar`, `The Jean Genie` & `This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us` each gaining 9 votes each, so this tie-break poll is required to find a winner.

Simply vote for the one you consider to be your favourite out of the three. The poll is blind and the result will be revealed at 9.00pm Saturday when i will manually close the poll. I just hope i remember to! If we dont have a clear winner, then i may do a further tie-break poll if we have two tied.
Vote for one of these three.
